A tour of the Warriewood Wetlands trail west side, located in Warriewood, a suburb on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.
There are two trails in the Warriewood Wetlands, which I have named the Warriewood Wetlands East and West side trails. Videos for both can be found on this channel. Link this up with the Irrawong Reserve Waterfall walk and you have one of the best walks in Sydney.
If you would prefer, you can view the video direct on the Sunday Explorer YouTube channel instead (link opens in a new window). It would be highly appreciated if you could give the video a LIKE and consider hitting SUBSCRIBE, which will both help us to make more videos.
The Warriewood Wetlands West trail starts at Kotao Close, Warriewood. The entrance is somewhat hidden from the main road, but once you enter Kateo Close it all becomes clear. After walking along a dirt path, with built up trees on either side, you then step onto the main raised wooden boardwalk. This boardwalk runs for a couple of hundred meters and takes you over the water. This particular boardwalk is extremely popular with bird watchers, as the elevated position makes this an excellent spot for bird photography. Reeds, lillies and long grasses are seen from this boardwalk.
The side rails then disappear, but the raised wooden deck continues as you get up close with the trees and potentially wildlife. It is along these stretches where lizards and snakes can be seen. The most common snake around the wetlands is the Red Belly Black snake. They are venomous, however unlike brown snakes, red belly black snakes are timid. Take photos, but don’t get too close to them. On a warm day you are more likely than not to spot at least one or two water dragons.
Both the Warriewood Wetlands west and east trails are easily accessible via public transport, well maintained and are pram friendly.
Warriewood Wetlands Trail West – Other Adventures Nearby
Assuming that you have finished the trail in the same position shown in the video, the best option from here is to walk directly across the road, where the Irrawong Reserve Trail begins, which is the home of the Warriewood Waterfall. Alternatively you can turn right and follow the path along a couple of hundred meters to the start of the Warriewood Wetlands Trail East. For something a bit different, a 10 minute walk north along Garden Street will bring you up towards the start of the Warriewood Downhill Trail. If you are looking for a longer walk then consider the 5 minute drive to the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail, which provides an 8.5km loop.
Warriewood Wetlands Trail West – Getting There
Catching public transport to the Warriewood Wetlands West is easy. The big double-decker yellow buses, known as the B-Line run from Wynyard in the Sydney CBD to Mona Vale. Simply hop off the bus at the Warriewood bus stop and then walk a couple of hundred meters along Jacksons Road to get to the start of the trail.
If you are coming to the area by car then free street parking is widely available at both ends of the trail, either grab one of the sports in Katoa Close or park on Garden Street at the start of the trail. At the end of the trail find parking in Watergum Drive.
