A tour of the Warriewood Wetlands trail east side, located in Warriewood, a suburb on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia.
There are two trails in the Warriewood Wetlands, which I have named the East and Warriewood Wetlands West side trails. Videos for both can be found on this channel. Link this up with the Irrawong Reserve Waterfall walk and you have one of the best walks in Sydney.
If you would prefer, you can view the video direct on the Sunday Explorer YouTube channel instead (link opens in a new window). It would be highly appreciated if you could give the video a LIKE and consider hitting SUBSCRIBE, which will both help us to make more videos.
This side of the Warriewood Wetlands trail starts with a wide dirt path. Water retention areas (lagoons/lakes) are positioned on either side. Each of these lagoons holds numerous birds and ducks and are very popular for bird watching and bird photography. Also located in the water is at least one eel, which I have seen dozens of times, so keep on the lookout for him. There is also a small raised wooden walkway to walk around part of the northern lagoon, the path to this raised walkway is on the immediate left as soon as you begin on the dirt trail.
The dirt path then turns into a wooden walkway and the grasses grow up right against either side of the railings. This is my favourite part of the track, as you could be located almost anywhere, it sure doesn’t feel like you are in the middle of a Sydney suburb.
The side railings drop away from the boardwalk and tree pop up on either side for a brief moment, before the railings come back again and you are now mainly over reeds and water. Turn right after the raised boardwalk to head along a dirt path to the end of the trail and the Warriewood Square Shopping Center. Also noteworthy on this last stretch is the Warriewood bat colony which lives in the tree on the right hand side of the trail. They are there every day, so keep an eye out …you will be able to smell them too!
Lots of water dragons can be found along this track, particularly the first section, and very rarely also the odd red belly black snake. Keep your eyes open.
Both of the trails are easily accessible via public transport, well maintained and are pram friendly.
Warriewood Wetlands Trail East – Other Adventures Nearby
We will cover off the easiest of the options first, and that is to turn right at the end of the trail and follow Jacksons Road for roughly 200 meters to the beginning of the Warriewood Wetlands Trail West. Best linked up with the end of the West side trail is the Irrawong Reserve, also known as the location of the Warriewood Waterfall. And once you are at the end of the Irrawong Reserve Trail, at the top of Ingleside, you can then link up with the end of the Warriewood Downhill Trail and make your way back down into the Warriewood Valley. If you are in the mood for something a bit longer then a 5 minute drive south, or the next B-Line bus stop along if you caught public transport, is the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail.
Warriewood Wetlands Trail East – Getting There
Similar to getting to the west side of the Warriewood Wetlands, taking public transport to the Warriewood Wetland East Trail is also easy, however you will most likely need to walk the trail in the opposite direction to what is shown in the video. The B-Line yellow double-decker buses run from the Sydney City to Warriewood very regularly, at least every 15 minutes during daytime. Simply hop off at the Warriewood bus stop and then head down Jacksons Road and the end of the trail can be found on the far side of the Warriewood Square Shopping Center.
Bringing the car is easy too. If you want to walk the trail in the order shown in the video then you will easily be able to find free street parking located in Shearwater Drive, Warriewood and the nearby streets. For car parking at the end of the trail you will be best placed parking within the Warriewood Square Shopping Center, as the trail ends right next to it. Although all the car park is completely free (it is not possible to pay for a ticket), some of the parking within the shopping center carpark is time limited.
